Long weekend plans!

July 7, 2010

We had a holiday on Monday, which meant that it was a long weekend here in America and like good denizens of the land; we had been planning on what to do, for the entire month.

Many ideas were suggested by members of the “general public” and all of them were vetoed by the other members of “general public”.

Mr. FR, the poor guy almost has a fetish for water. One gets the feeling that he is direct descendant of Lord Varuna. He suggested extreme things like water rafting, yachting, canoeing and even snorkeling. His everlasting passion, I believe is to atleast once, swim in the Dead Sea.

Mr. HPU and I, on the other hand, have a strong dislike for any water adventures. It could be partially, because we do not know swimming but in the end, all of Mr. FR’s ideas were vetoed.

Mr. HPU, the fitness freak, suggested things like hiking, trekking, camping in the wilderness, and other nonsensical stuff like sharing lunch with the grizzly bears. I have no idea as to who puts these kinds of ideas into his head but well, if I meet that person, I will surely have a lot to say.

Mr. FR and I, on the other hand, vetoed every single plan of his because we wanted to sign up for a vacation and not some “boot camp” session.

Being the pragmatic guy in the group, I suggested many decent and mundane ideas like sleeping/eating/relaxing but the other two strongly rejected my suggestions claiming that they were not fun enough.

And so, after a month of planning, we realized that we still did not have a “plan”.

And so, last week, I had to convene an urgent “general body” meeting.

I suppose that it is an inherent trait in every mallu. You have a problem, an issue; then the first thing you always do is to convene a meeting with all the respective parties. I suppose that is also an inherent trait in the mallu gene, that almost everything else in the world is discussed in the meeting, except for the core central issue. Well, we did not have Sardar Krishna Kurup to solve our problem.

After an hour of exhausting discussion, we finally got down to business. The conversation, which has been translated to English for my readers, went something like this:

Me:My dear fellow members; the truth still is that we do not have a plan”.

Mr. HPU:How can we fix a plan when most of my suggestions were vetoed by you two?”

Mr. FR:Aha, then what about my suggestions, which you guys vetoed?”

Me:Well, in that case, since we seem to agree to disagree on this matter, I have another suggestion. Why not we just go to Vegas?”

Mr. HPU: “It is such a boring place. We have already been there so many times already”.

Mr. FR:I agree dude. I am sick and tired of always going to Vegas.”

I said: “Our plans are never going to get finalized at this rate. We are anyways going to do a lot of eating and sleeping this weekend. Why not just do the same thing in Vegas?”

The “general public” was quiet for a few seconds, deep in thought; and finally found wisdom in my words.

And so, ladies and gentlemen, we were in Vegas this weekend and had some good/clean fun. I am particularly proud of the fact that I did not spend a penny on gambling.
