Kebab me kaun kaun hai !!

December 24, 2008

This article is about my friend Mr. AT. I have actually always wanted to write about him.
Where do I start?
I first met him in college around 7 years back in Trivandrum (in CET) and from there onwards, we have been as thick as thieves. The main reason as why I am writing about him is that he represents for me personally, “The 21st Century Indian”.

He represents for me, the new breed of twenty something years who do not have a single fear in the world and who are ready to go get things done (unlike me).
Nothing ever has been a problem for him till now. Being the arts club secretary of our college, he has literally conquered mountains to get things done. This list would actually contain a lot of things like getting funding for events, preventing many drunken brawls (using only his brains) and many many more.

No situation has been unconquerable for him. Around 2 years back, he had come to Pune to become an MBA graduate! His limited knowledge of Hindi did not ever pose the slightest problem for him. (Unlike me when I had come to Mumbai three years back).

Some of his more famous dialogues in Hindi include:

Kebab me kaun kaun hai!!! (What is in this kebab?)
Mera Hindi bahut gharib hai!! (My Hindi is weak)
Yeh bahut aparaadh hai!! (The price is so high)

He did manage to slaughter Tamil for a year when he was in Chennai before coming here and just like that, without the slightest discrimination (LOL), he has managed to slaughter Hindi and has successfully done the same for more than 2 years now. The recession, the job market crash has hardly made a mark on him. When I was in Pune last week for a meeting I did manage to meet him and the old AT was at it again, cracking jokes and drawing attention all the time.

We certainly need more go-getter’s like him who are not afraid of failure, language problem, and all the differences, we have as Indians!!

So this article is dedicated to this ass, the man voted the most popular man in college in Pune (without knowing Hindi) and the man who cares two hoots about what others would say when he strolls around casually in his Mallu Style Lungi in broad daylight in Pune in his college!!

PS: I am sure that AT is not going to read this blog, but yes, Best of luck to him and to the countless others who have forgotten their Hindi after meeting him……..
PPS: and Merry Christmas to all!!!!

I have also met a few of this kind in my life. These are the people who make life very very liveable under any circumstance and one should never let go of them because they are not only good, they are priceless to have as friends. They spread positive feelings all around and nobody can be low in their company. May the AT breed grow – we need many more of his kind. Thank you for sharing and for putting it across so simply and beautifully.

Goes to show that language is a barrier in the mind alone. Where the uncluttered heart triumphs, as it has in the case of AT, there are barriers no more.
